Evander to develop extension for fast expanding online retailer ASOS in North East

Brand new regional distribution centre pre-let to Waitrose handed over

The project comprises two extensions of 75,000 and 65,000 sq ft to the existing ASOS central distribution unit in Houghton Main near Barnsley and will be 19m high internally. The works involve modification of the existing service yards and an extension to the existing car park.

Evander have worked up the detailed proposals and secured planning permission for owners / asset managers Blackstone and Anglesea Capital. Close liaison with ASOS will minimise impact on exisitng operations.  Strengthening works are required to the existing structure to accommodate additional snow loading from the higher extension and these works have been planned to be carried out ‘out of hours’ and in a carefully planned manner in order to minimise disruption.

Commenting on the announcement, Evander Managing Director Jeremy Greenland said “Having worked with Asos in the past we’re delighted to be involved in this project alongside Anglesea and Blackstone.  In addition to development management projects we continue seek out serviced industrial development land upwards of five acres across the UK and short term income producing units of 50,000+ sq ft close to major conurbations”

The works commenced on site on 17th June 2013 with PC on 13th Dec 2013. Buckinghams are the main contractor.
