The festive food we love!

The launch of our Christmas Burger has got us thinking about how much we love tucking into all of the delicious festive food at the time of year. We’ve listed our favourites below, but let us know what you love eating & which food gets you into the spirit of Christmas.

MINCE PIES
We love mince pies & can easily tuck into a plate-full!  Mince pies originally contained ‘chewette’, which was made with chopped meat or liver, boiled eggs, ginger, dried fruit and other sweet ingredients. This is where the ‘mince’ reference comes from in the name. By the 19th century in Great Britain and North America, mince pies no longer contained any meat .

TURKEY
For centuries it was traditional for UK families to eat goose or the head of a boar. However this changed in the 16th Century when the turkey bird was introduced to England. There are conflicting accounts of when the turkey arrived to the UK. William Strickland is generally credited for importing six wild turkeys into England in 1526 (into the port of Bristol). However, later sources, state that the turkey came a little earlier to England, come by way of the New World – from Mexico to the Spanish Netherlands, (by Spanish traders) & then to England. Whoever is credited for bringing turkeys into England, we sure love tucking into them on Christmas Day!

CHRISTMAS PUDDING
Christmas Pudding is a traditionally served on Christmas Day (December 25). It has its origins in medieval England. In 1714, King George I requested it be served as part of his royal feast in his first Christmas in England & we don’t blame him! We like the fact that traditionally, every member of the household stirs the pudding, while making a wish!

CHRISTMAS CAKE

We enjoy a traditional Christmas cake, especially if they are iced & have lovely Christmas decorations on top. The spices in Christmas cake were added to represent the exotic eastern spices brought by the Wise Men & coins were also added to Christmas cakes for good luck.

OUR CHRISTMAS BURGER
We couldn’t possibly not mention our delicious new Christmas Burger, which is topped with a new speciality date & fig relish. It’s perfect to get you in the festive spirit. You can enjoy the tasty relish with our beef, chicken or veg & bean patties & tuck into our ‘tradition with a twist’ burger!
Our Christmas Burger is available from today until Saturday 24th December, so make sure you give it a try this month.
