Facts about Wakefield
We’re new to Wakefield, so we thought we’d do some digging & find out some interesting facts about the home of our new restaurant.
A couple of famous nursery rhymes orginate from Wakefield, including The Grand Old Duke of York (from the Battle of Wakefield in 1460 when the Duke of York was killed) & Here we go round the Mulbery Bush, from Wakefield High Security Prison.
The most prominent landmark is the Wakefield Cathedral & the Cathedral spire and tower together are 247 ‘ high (the tallest in Yorkshire).
The town is popularly referred to as “Wakey”.
Our new home,Trinity Walk Shopping Centre, opened on 6 May 2011 & Wakefield Council describe it as “the most important City Centre development for more than 20 years”.
