Mission accomplished for Angel Springs engineer Dave James

Sanitisation engineer Dave James from Angel Springs the UK’s fastest growing supplier of bottled and mains fed water coolers, set out on a mission last week to ride from John O’Groates to Lands’ End on a 50cc moped, along with 50 other motorcycle enthusiasts in order to raise money for Brad’s Cancer Foundation UK.

Over the past seven days he has endured harsh weather conditions and breakdowns. Only capable of reaching 30mhp has been a challenge in itself! Dave James has been updating us all with his progress along the way and below is his final update.

Well done Dave!

Hi Everyone….here is my final update from arriving at Worksop.

Day five we left Worksop to head for Cirencester in Gloucestershire, via Nottingham so that we could visit the hospital that we are trying to raise money for (the whole point of the trip) a long trip when you cannot use motorways, however I managed to get my ped running like a dream now that I found out that my points had closed up, so we made steady progress.

When we arrived at Cirencester I found that Jan (the wife) and Chris (my son) had joined us in the van and I had a great night’s sleep that night in the van. We had also received a special delivery of much needed Angel Springs water coolers bespoke small pack water, which was more than welcome.

Day six we left Cirencester for Oakhampton in Devon, the penultimate journey and I was now worried about any unusual sounds made by my very small engine, to have an engine seizure now after all the miles covered in such horrendous conditions would be a disaster, but it kept on chugging away, not long to go now. We arrived at Oakhampton in the early evening and found that the army had put some large tents up for us, as they have done throughout the trip, a much needed resource that we could not have done without. We had a meal in the pub that night and got ready for the last day.

We left Oakhampton on the last day down the A30 that would take us all the way to Lands’ End, breakdowns were still occurring, but our skilled genius mechanics had them fixed and rolling again within minutes, keeping everyone going. The peds were now looking very tired and battered, but kept going to the end.

50 of us on peds arrived at Lands’ End on Friday the 13th April, 7 days after we started our incredible journey from John O’Groates, an amazing achievement that took over 80 people to achieve. Altogether we raised over £30,000 for brads teenage cancer foundation, a much needed amount of money that is going towards a new unit at Nottingham hospital, for teenaged cancer sufferers across the country.

I would like to thank each and every one of you at Angel Springs who have sponsored me, for this amazing journey and help me raise some money for this worthwhile cause.

Back to sanitising coolers for me tomorrow, see you soon.

Angel Springs engineer Dave James and his mission impossible

Angel Springs the UK’s leading supplier of bottled and mains fed water coolers donated bottled water to a group of Volkswagen enthusiasts, last week who are undergoing a ‘two wheel’ mission impossible to raise money for the brads cancer foundation charity.

Angel sanitisation engineer Dave James who is taking part has sent an update about the journey so far…..

Hi everyone, it has been difficult to get any reception but here is the latest update from my mission impossible.

I arrived at John O’Groates after 14 hours of traveling through the night. John O’Groates is very bleak and rainy. I left there on Saturday morning to get to just below Inverness. Six mopeds broke down straight away, and halfway through the journey my clutch cable snapped and I had to complete the leg by crashing through my gears. My bike also fell over and broke my break leaver, although these issues have now been fixed.

Day 2 on Sunday I left Inverness to get through mountains in highlands, severe rain hit and made the journey difficult but arrived at Witch of Weir very wet. We left Witch of Weir on Monday for Windermere in the Lake District under heavy rainfall again. Arrived very late in darkness and had to endure storm conditions under canvass, and it’s now I’m finding things hard, however left the lake for Worksop and after a long journey have now arrived to nice sunshine for the first time. I’ve just finished a nice well-earned dinner and getting ready to head to Cirencester tomorrow morning.

I will send you all photos as soon as I can!

Each day the blog will be updated with the progress of the mission by Angel Springs sanitisation engineer David James.

Dave’s first post can be found below:

Hello Angel Springs it’s your favourite water cooler sanitisation engineer here and welcome to my first blog post, covering my epic attempt to travel from John O Groats to Lands End, using only a 49cc moped.

This journey has taken us a year to plan and I will be riding with over 50 other riders (under 50 cc only) and 20 support vehicles, covering almost 1000 miles in 7 days with a maximum speed of 30 mph. We will be stopping at predetermined campsites along the way, to fuel up, eat, and fix any problems and sleep.

The idea is to raise money for brads cancer foundation, a charity set up to help teenagers with cancer, (find out more here http://www.brads.org.uk/) the whole journey will be a blast and I am going to keep you updated all the way using my iPad. (Although a connection in parts of Scotland will be a problem) so don’t panic if you don’t hear from me for the first couple of days.

Here are a few photos to get you in the mood including the route which is complicated as we cannot use motorways. I am leaving for John O Groats today to get to the top and we will be leaving for the south west on Saturday the 7th April, so wish me luck folks and I will send you updates soon.

Angel Springs go the extra mile to support Eccleshall village charity hike

Angel Springs have donated over 200 bottles of sports cap water for a 25-mile charity hike across Shropshire and Staffordshire.

The ramble – due to take place on Saturday 17th March – will see local residents of Eccleshall village donning their toughest walking boots in aid of Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Our contribution to the walk will ensure that participants stay hydrated over the course of their long journey – enjoying great-tasting,  bottled spring water from one of our local sources.

The donation is being offered as part of the Angels in the Community initiative, which supports local charities and fund-raising events with donations.

All proceeds from the walk will be donated to Ronald McDonald House Birmingham, where Eccleshall schoolboy Harry Wynn stayed whilst undergoing treatment for cancer at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Harry’s plight has encouraged Eccleshall residents to club together in aid of the charity. Local fundraisers have already contributed more than £7000, and now aim to raise even more with this latest initiative.

Angel Springs is the UK’s longest established and leading service provider of both bottled and mains-fed water coolers.

Angel Springs’ commercial director, John Murphy, said: “We were touched by Harry’s story, and inspired by the efforts of the Eccleshall villagers to raise funds for this charitable cause.

“Our Angels in the Community programme has already helped many local charities, and we felt that the passion and commitment that the people of Eccleshall have shown – as well as the inspirational work that the Ronald McDonald Charities carry out – meant that we had to lend our support.

“We wish all walkers the best of luck on the big day, and we hope to help out again in the near future.”

Well done to Richard Smith for taking part in the Movember Fundraiser

Angel's Mr Movember

Richard Smith from the Telesales department at Angel Springs Water Coolers HQ has taken part in raising money for the annual moustache growing fundraising event Movember. Since Movember 1st, Richard has been growing his moustache in order to contribute, to a charity that increases the awareness of Prostate and Testicular Cancer and other cancers that affect men.

So far Richard has managed to raise £142.00 and is close to hitting his target of £150.00, so he is calling for your help to assist him in surpassing this and contributing to a global movement that helps to make a difference to lives and families of males who have been affected across the UK and further afield.

Richard has provided the following comments,

“I would like to say a considerable amount of thanks to Angel Springs for the generous donation received for this cause, it really makes a difference and has had a considerable impact on the overall amount that will be raised by the end of the month. I would also like to thank all the staff at Angel Springs as well for their personal donations on top. With all of their assistance alongside the company I am looking to raise well over £200, which is a phenomenal amount considering my original target was to try and reach £100.

The support has been overwhelming, although it is a light-hearted way to raise awareness what it represents is a serious issue and everybody in and around Angel Springs have been fantastic.”

If you would like to make a donation please give Richard a call or visit his MoBro page at http://uk.movember.com/mospace/2504022/
